| The
Topps Company, Inc.
Topps
is an international marketer of entertainment products,
principally collectible sports trading cards, confections,
games and sticker album collections.
Whether
you've chewed Bazooka bubble gum, enjoyed a Ring Pop, traded
baseball cards with friends, pushed a Push Pop or have been
grossed-out by Garbage Pail Kids, Topps most likely affected
your childhood and adolescence (and possibly your adulthood!)
in some way or another.
In 1938,
four brothers founded Topps Chewing Gum. The company name
evolved from the idea of making the products "tops"
in the field, with that extra "p" added for distinctive
identity. They began by marketing single pieces of conventional
chewing gum. Priced at one-cent each, the Topps Gum became
a popular "change maker" on store counters throughout
the country. And shortly after World War II, Topps developed
its now-famous Bazooka bubblegum.
Also
during this era, Topps issued its first trading card series
highlighting a favorite TV cowboy named Hopalong Cassidy.
And in 1951, Topps issued its first full series of baseball
cards, which we all know has become an annual tradition.
As an
American icon for 65 years, Topps has impacted millions
around the globe and continues to do so in the new millennium.
Today, The Company's confectionery brands include "Juicy
Drop Pop", "Ring Pop", "Push Pop"
and "Baby Bottle Pop" lollipops as well as "Bazooka"
bubble gum. Topps entertainment products include sports
and entertainment trading cards such as "Star Wars"
and "Lord of the Rings", sticker and album collections,
and collectible games. Topps also has a distinct internet
presence including the eTopps, Topps Vault and The Pit businesses.
Topps
is a publicly traded company under the NASDAQ symbol 'TOPP'.
