The Topps Vault Presents… The Topps Vault File Copy™ Cards

The Topps Company has long been admired for turning out many of the most definitive trading cards ever created. For more than fifty years, the most prodigious names in sports and entertainment have appeared on a Topps-produced picture card. And now, through this special online promotion, collectors will have the rare opportunity to own an original Topps Archival File Copy trading card.

The trading cards offered through this exclusive eBay promotion are part of the extraordinary collection of 3-ring binders kept by Topps as its in-house archives. During his distinguished tenure with Topps, the legendary Woody Gelman and the Topps team painstakingly pasted two crisp copies of each trading card into an individual set presentation binder to show the front and back of each. During the course of their creative endeavors, the Topps production staff would incessantly reference these rather distinct binders. Over time, some of the cards were removed or damaged and sadly, have been lost forever. But in the end, many of these cardboard treasures would stand the test of time and now, will find their way into the hands of collectors yearning to own a small piece of pop culture history.

The Topps team also inserted many of its original file copy cards onto special die-cut pages. These striking cards are free of any staining and present themselves in high-quality condition. The stain-free cards are encapsulated two ways, either as "Authentic" or with an actual BVG numerical grade, i.e. BVG 8. The Topps team archived only one of each stain-free card into the presentation binder and this rarity is identified on the label as 1/1.

Description from the 1989 Topps Guernsey's Auction Catalogue:

We have grouped the distinctive File Copy cards with paste staining into two categories. The 1/2 cards will contain the original paste stain on the reverse side and the 2/2 cards will contain the paste stain on the front of the card. Other than this subtle paste stain; the majority of these archival relics boast sharp corners, vivid color and stunning clarity.
Each original File Copy card is encapsulated and graded either "Authentic" or by number grade by Beckett Grading Services. Each card comes with a certificate of authenticity with a corresponding serial number that is recorded in a special data file accessible for viewing on thetoppsvault.com website. This resource database will be continuously updated as new cards become available.

In the coming months, The Topps Vault will be offering a random selection of both sports and non-sports cards from these extraordinary Topps Presentation Binders. For collectors wishing to own a bit of hobby history, these unique Topps File Copy trading cards are just the place to start.
